Madonna  Moss

(Class  of  1972)

Madonna Moss’ accomplishments in the field of archaeology are vast. She received a Ph.D. in 1989, and has spent 10 years teaching at the University of Oregon. Her main focus is the history of the peoples of the Northwest Coast region. She studies archaeological sites that document Native American history going back 10, 000 years. Her exhaustive work in this field includes numerous journal and research articles and professional presentations. Madonna is also the recipient of many awards and grants to further her research.

Madonna is a member of a variety of professional organizations, including the American Anthropological Association and the Society for American Archaeology.

"At F-M there was a wonderful climate of excellence," she says. "The teachers were enthusiastic and supportive. They expected my best and I tried to provide my best. There was a widely shared sense of camaraderie."

As for her work as an archaeologist she adds, "I anticipate working on the Northwest Coast for the rest of my professional career," sheadds. "The histories and cultures of this region are rich and complex and could sustain many lifetimes of study."

Madonna lives in Oregon with her husband, Jon Erlandson and their son Erik.
