EDUCATIONAL
PHILOSOPHY
In a democratic society, people cherish the rights, privileges, dignity, and
personal worth of the individual. The
school has a significant role in transmitting these values to children.
The Fayetteville-Manlius Board of Education and staff believe that
children are the most important resource of our community and must be helped to
develop to their fullest educational potential.
The
primary responsibility of the school is to promote mastery of academic and
intellectual skills in order to prepare young people for higher education,
meaningful life work, and a place as contributing members of society.
Equally important, young people must learn to value, develop, and
preserve their personal health as well as enrich the quality of their
lives.
Students
must learn to respect themselves and others, and to appreciate and value
diversity among people. They
must work and play alongside others who possess equal rights and aspirations for
fulfillment in life. Students must
be able to experience success and the pride of accomplishment.
The human skills necessary to fulfill these goals should include
knowledge of the decision-making process and an understanding of group dynamics.
Provisions
must be made for all students. Education
should match their abilities, stretch their minds, and challenge their talents. This educational experience must encourage creativity and
logical thinking. Teachers
and staff must help students maintain the excitement, curiosity, and love of
learning which characterize the young child.
Young people need to learn how to learn, to be continually stimulated and
challenged to find answers to their questions and then to ask new ones.
Young
people need to understand their heritage, both as unique human beings and as
Americans. They need a sense of
history, an understanding of our democratic government, our Constitution, and
the free enterprise system.
The
Board is committed to the overall growth and development of our students.
Accordingly, it is dedicated to providing the finest educational program
within the resources provided by the community.
